Rubie is a very shy and reserved child. He was doing grade 10 and he has decided to drop out of school. His challenge was debate, presentation and answering questions in front of other learners. Some learners were always laughing at him because he could hardly answer a question.

3.1. List THREE strategies that enhance self – esteem.

1, To enhance Rubie’s self-esteem, several strategies can be implemented. This is particularly true for young girls who often face pressure from their families and communities to marry at a young age. One such case is that of Pimose, a young girl who desires to pursue an education, which her parents are denying by refusing to register her at any school. Additionally, she is being coerced into a marriage with an elderly man against her will.

This violates her rights in the following ways

Firstly, Pimose has the right to pursue an education, which her parents are denying by refusing to register her at any school, this violates her right to education. 

Secondly, her right to be treated with respect and dignity is a fundamental human right that should be extended to all individuals. Pimose deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, rather than being coerced into a marriage she does not want with an elderly man. 

The right to choose is also a fundamental human right that should be respected. Pimose has the right to make decisions about her own life, including whom she marries, without being forced against her will.

Lastly, Primrose’s right to equality is also violated by her parents’ actions. Her parents are discriminating against her based on gender and age. They are treating her unfairly by attempting to force her into a marriage with a much older man against her will, solely because she is a young woman.

The act of forced marriage by her parents bears numerous negative impacts on Pimose. 

To start with, Pimose may decide to socially, isolate herself by distancing herself from her family and relatives as a way of avoiding further humiliation and pressure to marry the elderly man.

She may also develop distrust towards elderly figures, including her parents, and only confide in her friends or peers, by assuming that all adults are the same

As a result, when challenged she might respond with anger and resort to being aggressive and avoid discussing issues. This could lead to challenges in communication and conflict resolution.  

The following strategies can be employed to address or prevent what Pimose went through. 

One such strategy is to report the situation so that young people facing similar situations can seek assistance from social workers or relevant authorities. This will not only protect them from forced marriages but also address the underlying issues within their families or communities. 

Another strategy is to organize awareness campaigns and educate the youth about their rights, including the right to choose whom they marry. This can empower them to resist pressure from parents or elders to enter into unwanted marriages. 

Finally, engaging with local radio stations or other media outlets to discuss the issue of forced marriages can raise awareness and provide a platform for victims to seek support anonymously, while also advocating for policy changes at a governmental level to address the issue within communities.

In conclusion, Pimose’s case is just one example of the numerous violations of the human rights of young girls. It is essential to address this issue by promoting human rights awareness, reporting cases of forced marriage, and advocating for policy change. Only by doing so, can we ensure that young girls like Pimose have the right to pursue their education, make decisions about their life, and be treated with respect and dignity.
